16 room types from Deluxe Garden View to Diamond Ocean View Swim-Up Suite. What the differences actually are and which upgrades matter.
Desire Riviera Maya has 114 rooms spread across 16 different categories. That sounds overwhelming, but they fall into clear tiers. The differences between them come down to four things: location, size, private outdoor features (jacuzzi, swim-up pool, plunge pool), and whether butler service is included.
Every room includes the same all-inclusive package. The food, drinks, entertainment, and clothing-optional areas are identical regardless of category. What changes is your private space.
The most common category is the Deluxe Garden View, with 40 rooms. These are comfortable, clean, and perfectly functional. You get a king bed, a bathroom with shower, a small balcony or terrace, and a garden view. They are the most affordable way into Desire.
Moving up, the Deluxe Pool View and Deluxe Ocean View rooms offer the same room layout with a better view. The Superior Garden View adds a bit more space and upgraded furnishings.
If you plan to spend most of your time at the pool, beach, and restaurants, these rooms do the job well. You are at Desire for the experience, not the room.
The Heavenly Garden View category introduces butler service, which means turndown touches, priority reservations, and someone to handle requests without you queuing at reception.
The Jacuzzi categories add a private in-room or terrace jacuzzi. This is the single upgrade that returning guests mention most. Having your own jacuzzi to come back to after a late night changes the feel of the stay entirely.
The Oceanfront Passion Suites (2 rooms) sit right on the beachfront with direct ocean views and expanded living space. The Devotion Suites (8 rooms) add butler service and a more luxurious interior, including premium bathroom fittings and upgraded amenities.
The Desire Suites (4 rooms) are loft-style, with a bedroom on the upper level and a living area below. These feel less like a hotel room and more like a small apartment.
Eden is the newest section of the resort and holds the most premium categories. The Beloved Suites feature swim-up access directly from the terrace, plus a jacuzzi and lush tropical views. The Seductive Suites combine jacuzzi and swim-up features with upgraded interiors.
At the top of the Eden wing sit the Diamond Suites, including the Diamond Ocean-View Swim-Up Suite (3 rooms, 111 square metres). These come with their own exclusive pool area, butler service, and the most space of any category on the property.
Three questions tend to settle the decision for most guests:
View matters less than you might think. You will spend very little time sitting on your balcony looking at the garden. Ocean views are lovely at sunrise, but you are paying a premium for something you may only notice for ten minutes a day.
The Diamond and Desire Suites have very limited inventory (3 and 4 rooms respectively). If you want one, book early. The Deluxe Garden View rooms (40 available) are the easiest to secure, even for peak season dates.
